I Am An Immigrant – Voices

I was born here. But my parents live in Hong kong right now. I also lived there before college. I came back here four years ago. I was clueless about how college in America was. I didn’t know about anything. And I met my roommate. She is from Nigeria. She is an international student too so we both faced the same struggles. We came to be best friends. And she is also nurse. Yes, I want to become a nurse. I came here to study nursing. It was hard in the beginning. It was very hard to get used to the weather, the culture, everything. But then, I met lot of good friends and my life changed. They are so nice to me. They often help me with my studies, take me out dinner, etc. They are like my best friends. I am in my senior year now. I originally intended to go to nursing school in Hong Kong but I didn’t get an ideal score to attend a college there. There are only three universities in Hong Kong that have a nursing school. There were also a few Universities in America that accepted me. However, I never gave up and continue to pursue my dream here. In the U.S., there are better opportunities for nurse practitioners that I feel lucky to have the opportunity to study here.
