I Am An Immigrant – Voices

My grandmother immigrated to the U.S. from Japan after she married my grandfather, who was stationed in Tokyo as a military officer. They were married and lived in Japan until 1955. They moved to New Jersey after coming to the U.S. with my five year old Aunt. My father was born 5 years later. If my grandmother did not come to the United States, my family would not be what it is today. There are so many possibilities regarding how my family could have been different. There could have been a chance that my father hadn’t been born, and my family wouldn’t have been a family. Immigration is a huge topic today. I believe that immigration is important to the U.S. Immigrants are brave people who left their homes to start over, and there are so many talents and skills that immigrants could provide.
