“Being apart of this culture, I get to share with my friends the different things my country has to offer such as my colorful traditions.”
Long Island, NY
I am from the Island Grenada and I am so proud. I love going home, being with my family and enjoying carnival. Being apart of this culture, I get to share with my friends the different things my country has to offer such as my colorful traditions. I dream of becoming a surgeon and although I attend university in the U.S., I plan on going to one of the top grad schools in Grenada. The U.S. is my home but from time to time, I feel like I need to get back and feel the comfort of my island. I’ve never felt different, I am just a girl who enjoys being from Grenada. Growing up, many of my friends had a hard time accepting the fact that my parents weren’t like theirs, my parents weren’t from here so they were strict and scared to let me out into what we saw as the land of opportunity that came with a price. However, as I got older, they saw the only way to gain opportunities was to let me be free to pave my own way in the country they worked hard to come to.
