Shoes to Wear with Different Types of Jeans
Skinny Jeans

Finding the perfect shoes to go with skinny jeans is more than just picking out whatever is in your closet.
It’s all about balance, style, and knowing how to make a simple piece into a complete look.
Skinny jeans are like the perfect blank canvas; infinitely versatile and just waiting for the perfect shoe to complete the look.
One of the reasons why skinny jeans are so popular is that they show off your shoes. You can keep it simple with a classic ballet flat, achieving that effortlessly chic look that can be perfect for anything.
From coffee dates to downtown shopping. Maybe even a plain black or nude flat; clean, modest, and polished without trying too hard.
But if you’re feeling adventurous, a pop of color or a satin ballerina flat will instantly elevate your look.
Loafers are perfect when you want to look put together on a day-to-day basis.
They give skinny jeans the right amount of shape, creating a chic but relaxed look that is perfect for work meetings or fancy brunches.
I love how a loafer with a slight heel elongates your legs while still being comfortable.
It’s the tiny details that make even the most basic clothing look chic.
Let’s not forget about pointed-toe heels, which are the way to transform skinny jeans from laid-back to omg. Black or nude heels with skinny jeans and a blazer?
It will instantly make you feel like that girl. Of course, if you want something with a bit more edge, combat boots are the way to go. They give that “off-duty model” vibe.
A combat boot goes so well with the look of skinny jeans; it gives you a well-balanced combination that is both casual and hot.
That’s how I discovered my current obsession, the Steve Madden Rocky Brown Distressed Boot.
I was scrolling on Instagram, trying to find some fall style inspo, and noticed how celebrities used edgy brown boots with skinny jeans and an oversized jacket.
It was just what I was looking for; something that felt both lived-in and elevated.
Straight-Leg Jeans

Straight-leg jeans are essentially the it-girl of jeans. Relaxed, simple, and structured just enough.
When I’m dressed casually, I typically reach for my Golden Goose Superstar Sneakers.
There’s just something about that perfectly worn-in, slightly distressed look that feels like you just hopped off a plane from Fashion Week, no itinerary, just vibes.
I usually throw them on with straight-leg jeans and a vintage tee. They’re relaxed enough to wear literally all day and give that effortless “I woke up like this” vibe we all secretly wish we had.
If I am in the mood for something extra, I go for a chunky block heel. It is the perfect shoe to give you an extra bit of height and some attitude to your look.
A pair like the Everlane Modern Loafers totally nails it — chic but not screaming for attention.
When the weather starts to get a bit cooler, I love a good ankle boot. I really like Tony Biaco’s Brazen Bootie.
They hit right at the ankle, look great with a little denim cuff, and instantly transform my straight-leg jeans into a complete look.
Styling Tip: Want to really show off your shoes? Cuff your jeans about an inch above the ankle.

Wide-Leg Jeans

Wide-leg jeans can be tough to style, but if styled right, they can create such a good look.
The loose fit offers comfort, almost making them the sweatpants of jeans. But the secret is to choose shoes that balance the flow without shortening your legs.
Platform heels are the perfect complement to wide-leg denim. Wedges are a must if you want to look cool while maintaining comfort.
They make everything seem so smooth and balanced.
Currently, I’m in love with the Michael Kors Leighton Leather Wedge; they’re so chic and comfortable.
For my casual girlies, classy sneakers are the way to go. Think Golden Goose or a pair of classic Vans Old Skools.
How to Style: Choose shoes that will elongate your figure, such as platforms, wedges, or a low-profile sneaker.
Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut jeans are the perfect mix of fitted and flared; they hug you in all the right places while adding a little drama at the knees.
Because of their shape, they are perfect with shoes that have structure. Honestly, nothing goes better with bootcut jeans than a classic pair of cowboy boots.
They give instant character and make any flared outfit seem more intentional. If Western isn’t really your thing, but you prefer sleek, heeled boots are your safest choice.
I’m obsessed with the Sam Edelman Daria Dress Booties. They’ve got a thicker hee,l which is perfect for the silhouette of bootcut jeans, and good for the winter without being too heavy.
If you prefer something more laid-back but not less stylish, pointed-toe flats are a really good alternative.
Cropped Jeans

I have been loving cropped jeans lately; they’re perfect for a cute shoe moment. Because they sit just above the ankle, they’re literally an invitation to have some fun with your shoes. The trick is to wear shoes that grab attention in the best way.
Slip-on shoes are the ideal choice for casual, everyday wear. I’ve recently fallen in love with the Back 70 Easter Mule Sneakers; they’re so comfortable, easy to wear, and look so good with cropped denim.
Whether I’m running errands or meeting friends for coffee, they’ve been my go-to shoe.
Ankle boots are my go-to when I want to dress up without going overboard. I would recommend the Sorel Lennox Waterproof Boots.
They give you that put-together vibe without being overly dressy. They’re also waterproof, making them perfect for any weather conditions.
And, of course, if I’m going somewhere more fancy, kitten heels are the way to go. They add just the right amount of height without killing my feet.
I’ve had my eye on the Manolo Blahnik BB kitten heels for a while now; they’re a timeless classic that instantly dresses up any look.
Style tip: Cropped jeans draw the eye down, so go for shoes with a fun texture or color

Seasonal Shoe Pairings for Jeans
When the weather finally warms up, I like to swap out my heavy boots for more lighter, breathable shoes.
There’s something about spring and summer that makes me want to live in espadrilles, sandals, and comfortable canvas sneakers.
These sneakers are breathable, extremely comfortable, and look great with denim, especially cropped or straight-leg jeans.
I’m completely obsessed with espadrilles this time of year because they scream “vacation mode” to me.
I just actually invested in a pair of Gucci Pilar GG Monogram Espadrilles and they’re one of those shoes you can never go wrong with.
They’re casual enough to run errands but dressy enough if you’re having lunch or martinis.
When the temps go down, it’s officially time to get cozy; but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style.
This is when I pull out all of my favorite boots! Knee-high boots, ankle boots, and even insulated sneakers are my go-tos for being toasty and stylish, especially coming from someone who is always chilly.
The Schutz Women’s Cate Curve Pointed Toe High Heel Boots are my favorite knee-high boots for cooler days.
They’re sleek, comfortable, and instantly elevate any outfit. They also look great layered over skinny jeans or worn under wide-leg denim for a sophisticated fall look.
Style tip: Always match your shoe material to the season, with light materials for spring/summer and thicker materials like leather or suede for fall/winter.
Occasion-Based Pairings

When it comes to pairing shoes with jeans, the vibe of the outfit is most important. It’s more than just what looks good; it’s about where you’re going and how you want to feel.
For casual days, I like easy, comfortable options like sneakers, sandals, or flat boots. They give the best balance between comfortable and cute, and you never feel like you’re overdoing it.
Sneakers are always a safe pick, whether you’re running errands or going for a coffee run.
If I’m going somewhere that requires a bit more effort, like brunch with friends, casual meetings, or a dinner date, I usually opt for mules, loafers, or a good block heel.
They instantly polish an outfit without making it look too formal.
Obviously, there is always a place for making an impression. Strappy heels, stilettos, or an elegant ankle boot are the perfect touch for weddings, fancy dinners, or even going out.
They instantly elevate jeans and make the entire look seem more dressed-up and deliberate without sacrificing your own personality.

Tips for Choosing the Right Shoes
Choosing the right shoes to wear with jeans does not have to be difficult; I always try to follow a couple rules when it comes to my look.
One thing I always remember to do is match the color of my shoes to my pants or small accessories in my outfit, like my bag or belt. It makes everything seem more put together with little effort.
Another important thing to consider is comfort. Yes, a high heel can make you feel like that girl, but what if you’re miserable after two hours?
Not worth it. I always want to find a balance between style and enjoyment in anything I do.
And, honestly, some of my favorite outfits are ones where I feel comfortable enough to wear over the top shoes.
A vibrant pop of color, a metallic finish, or even a unique texture can turn a simple jeans-and-tee look into something so good without making you feel like you spent hours in front of the mirror.
Celebrities and Influencers: Inspiration for Shoe-and-Jeans Pairings
If you’re ever confused on how to style your jeans and shoes, just go through Kylie Jenner or Gigi Hadid’s outfits; they never fail.
Kylie is the queen of making any simple outfit look luxurious. One of her go-to looks consists of baggy, straight-leg jeans, sleek pointed-toe heels, and a small top.
You can completely replicate this look without breaking the bank: get the Light Wash Straight Leg Jeans from PrettyLittleThing and wear them with the Black Lace Point Toe Mid Heeled Courts (also from PLT; they have so many affordable options).
Add a little corset top and you’re good to go.
Gigi Hadid, on the other hand, is all about that easy cool girl vibe. You’ll see her wearing wide-leg or mom jeans, chunky sneakers, and a cropped jacket.
To achieve this, head to Urban Outfitters – their Levis Baggy Dad Jeans are literally meant for this, and you can pair them with some ASICS GEL-1130 Sneakers or even platform Vans for that model-off-duty feel.
