Self-Expression
Self-Expression – Voices 42
The other way, my way, is to express yourself. Then, fashion is no longer superficial or trivial, it becomes the true reflection of your deep inner life.
Another important thing to understand about fashion is that it is an art. Just like painting, writing, or dancing, fashion is a way of self-expression.
The way I came about this belief is from growing up in an artistic family. I have always been surrounded by drawings, canvases, and music. I eventually made art too into a study of mine and began practicing painting, drawing, singing, dancing, writing and photography.
For these reasons, I also approach fashion as an art and treat it as one. I also try to stay very focused on my art because for me life is too boring without it.
A quiet daily life is not enough for me because I feel I cannot always show my true colors. However, with fashion, I am able to express who I am through my clothing and the styles I choose to wear. This really started to show when I was a teenager.
I always hated the feeling that I had that I wasn’t like everyone else. Therefore, I decided to scandalize people with my outfits. It was a mess of punk and colors!
By dressing this way, I was able to express everything I couldn’t say with words. Now, I put together outfits to produce an atmosphere, express a mood, and build a harmony of colors. Actually, I recently created an outfit inspired by the Baudelaire’s poems ‘les fleurs du mal.’
Ultimately, by using fashion in an artistic way, I’m truly able to be myself in a creative and freeing way!
