“Singing doesn’t have a definite stop, there’s no limitation to your potential. You have to keep learning and driving yourself with your passion.”
Charlotte, NC
It sounds cliché, but I feel like I’ve always been singing. One definite start would be when I tried out for an honors chorus in elementary school and sang in an official space. I remember worrying that I would be asked to do a surprise solo, so being on the stage made me nervous.

In performing arts, many people have stage fright. We’re subjecting ourselves to criticism and it can be nerve-wracking, no matter the age.

However, as I learned more about how to control my voice, the fear lessened. The more time I spent practicing the art, the more I was able to control the fear.

Self-doubt can always be a problem in self-expression. I never fully knew what I wanted to do in life and I surely never spoke about becoming a singer. I wanted to, but I didn’t want others to see my ambition as funny or impractical.

I didn’t seriously admit to myself and others that I wanted to be a singer until just last year, when I realized that I’d rather follow my dreams than regret the chances I didn’t take. Amazingly, my family was and is completely supportive of my dream.

Most of my hesitation came from my own doubts, not the dissatisfaction of my family. Now, I am not afraid to admit to anyone that I want to be a vocalist.

If anyone ever asked me about singing, I would say to be yourself when expressing your emotions. Singing can be therapeutic to anyone, even someone who wouldn’t sing in front of others.

Music is powerful because it transforms extreme emotions into an awe-inspiring melody. Then, anyone can sing the songs, re-interpret them, and make them unique. I love the idea that I could produce music that resonates with millions worldwide.

To make a singing career, I believe it is important to never be complacent. I compete against myself every day, letting my drive push me higher.

Singing doesn’t have a definite stop, there’s no limitation to your potential. You have to keep learning and driving yourself with your passion. And that’s what I will continue to do as a vocalist.
