“I would stay up late, wake up late, and I just felt like I had no purpose. It wasn’t until one day that I suddenly woke up and knew I needed a change, some structure-a routine.”
My major passion is running. Before I found this passion, I tended to resort to negative outlets that were only bringing me down.
What initially led me to start running was the series of unfortunate events I faced eight years ago. It was during this time that I got laid off during the peak of the recession. I was also in an extremely unhealthy relationship that didn’t help either.
I would stay up late, wake up late, and I just felt like I had no purpose. It wasn’t until one day that I suddenly woke up and knew I needed a change, some structure-a routine.
As a little girl, I grew up watching my father get up every morning and go for a run. Following his example of a routine, I decided to try this out myself.
First, I started slowly, running the long side of the block and then, walking the short side. This eventually progressed into running the entire block.
Now, eight years later, I have run 7561 miles! I have run a handful of 5ks, 10ks, 2 half marathons, and one marathon to date.
Honestly, running has really helped me to express myself in such a positive and uplifting way. It has given me a reason to get up every morning with goals and a purpose.
It truly has become not just my passion, but my salvation and even my PMS mood regulator. Now, I know that with all that I’ve faced: heartache, deaths, and career changes-running will be my constant. It will propel me forward and help me be the best person I can be!
