Mental Health – Voices
“I think mental health is underrated. When I was first diagnosed, I was devastated that it would take pills to make me ‘normal’ but everybody has it, everyone experiences it at some point.”

Social standards and education standards are definitely factors that can contribute to depression in young adults. Compared to my parents, I feel like there’s so much more of a pressure to get a good education and go to graduate school and all that stuff.
I think that’s a really big influence, your parents want you to do better and the standards are set higher for us then they were for them. I think mental health is underrated.
When I was first diagnosed, I was devastated that it would take pills to make me ‘normal’ but everybody has it, everyone experiences it at some point. I think it’s so underrated and people look at it like it’s a negative thing, like you should be institutionalized, and I don’t think it’s to that extent.
I think if people reach out and get help, they’ll be so much happier. Bringing awareness to the fact that it is a problem is important but it’s not a problem, it’s something can be dealt with the right resources.
