“I think Valentine’s Day is a great day to appreciate the person that you’re with and to show them that you really care about them.”
Danbury, CT
I think Valentine’s Day is a great day to appreciate the person that you’re with and to show them that you really care about them. But, I think that sometimes if you’re at a point in the relationship where it’s still new, or still young, you might put a lot more pressure on the material side of it because you’re trying to get more expensive things for the person rather than gifts with sentimental value. I ended up lucky because the person that I’m with isn’t limited by only recognizing value in material things, but by it’s emotional value.

Being in love has made my life a lot better. It makes problems that you’re going through easier. If you feel like you have a burden to carry, two people are carrying it. So you’re not alone. One of the best stories that I can give from my experience of being in love is during finals week when I had a lot of projects and papers do, I was able to get through it because I had that special person to motivate me. It’s good that it goes both ways where you both know that you have each other’s back.

Valentine’s day is so prominent in American culture, so when people think ‘love’, they think of one special person that you might spend your life with. There are plenty of different kinds of love; platonic love, parental love and relationship love. It’s the small things that show that you care for anyone. Valentine’s Day is more than just being in relationships, it’s more than just a man and a woman. It could be a man and a man or a man and his dog. Just showing that you care for someone or something.

Growing up in a Hispanic and Black family shaped the way that I view love because family is so important and the relationship that you have with family members are strong. It’s made me more sensitive to understanding how I make people that I care about feel.
