Self-Expression

How I Express My Style by Creating Jewelry

My favorite way to express myself is through making jewelry. I’ve been designing and creating jewelry out of antique flatware (spoons, forks, knives, serving utensils, etc.) for about two years now. My signature design that most people recognize is my whale’s tail. I originally saw a similar type of design on Pinterest and thought, ‘I can do that!’ With a little trial and error, I eventually created a tail of my own!

Over the past two years, I have spent countless hours imagining, creating, and perfecting my designs. I have learned many new skills and tricks over the years. And, still continue to learn and grow as an artist!

I have learned how to create many different designs and patterns using different tools and techniques. Although the tail is my signature design, I create many other designs as well!

I make all types of jewelry- necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings- you name it. I can probably figure out a way to make it! I get all sorts of custom requests from potential customers all the time.

Sometimes a customer will request something I don’t usually make. But, I never back down from a challenge! I very much enjoy trying out new designs and eventually learning how to perfect them.

I call my business ‘Avalonia Jewelry’ because it was both founded in and inspired by my favorite little beach town- Avalon, New Jersey! I have always loved the beach. I love being able to incorporate elements of it into my jewelry designs!

My jewelry is important to me because it gives me a creative outlet in which to express myself. It also gives me pretty accessories I can wear out.

I love seeing other people wearing my designs as well! Jewelry in general is a form of self-expression. But, I think making ‘my own’ adds another more personal layer to it all.
