“The frequency of mass shootings in our country would not have happened if those people didn’t have such easy access to guns.”
I am in support of gun control because I see no reasons for civilians to carry guns. I think if someone wants to own a single-shot weapon and they have their license and a proper background check, that would be okay. But there is no reason that anyone would ever need a gun that is an automatic weapon that could kill multiple people so quickly. Even the single-firing weapons are pushing it, but the people who have them, feel like it is for their own protection, so I can try to see from their perspective. Personally, I don’t feel like carrying a gun would make me feel safer because at this point, it seems that everyone else has one too. So, what is that going to lead to? Are we all just going to start carrying guns and shooting at each other? That’s terrifying and definitely not the right way for us to have to live. The frequency of mass shootings in our country would not have happened if those people didn’t have such easy access to guns. Yes, they could have still tried to harm people using knives or a gun that can only shoot one bullet at a time, but the fact that they were able to end so many lives is all because of their access to these automatic weapons. I know there are certain restrictions in place, but people are able to just buy guns off the streets or get around them somehow. I think our country could definitely take some tips from the UK. Their police don’t even carry guns, instead they just use those batons for their safety. Mass shootings do not exist there the way we do here, so clearly they’re doing something right.
