“Personally, I wouldn’t feel safer carrying a gun because I would never want to be responsible if I ever hurt someone or myself accidentally.”
I am completely in support of gun control in America because there has just been too many instances of gun violence and school shootings lately. It shouldn’t be so easy for a kid to just walk into a store and purchase a weapon that can threaten innocent people’s’ lives. Mentally unstable individuals and young adults whose brains aren’t even fully developed yet should not be able to access these deadly machines. Personally, I wouldn’t feel safer carrying a gun because I would never want to be responsible if I ever hurt someone or myself accidentally. Guns lead to accidents all the time so I think enacting mandatory safety features would definitely reduce the number of gun related deaths in America. Plus, there are other ways people can protect themselves like using pepper spray or carrying a pocket knife for self defense. Carrying a gun is not a human right. Guns are a man made, technological invention. It’s not like your right to education or free speech. Guns are objects; a commodity. We just don’t have good enough gun control laws in this country which is the sole reason for the amount of violence we have. We need stricter background checks and better safety precautions. It isn’t hard to see that we should really follow other countries that aren’t having these problems. The ability for people to easily access guns allows deadly weapons to end up in the hands of people that should not have access to them on a much more frequent basis than countries who have different policies. This is not a trivial issue that can be looked past. It is the matter of completely innocent lives being saved. Too frequently do we see new stories airing in the media covering another instance of unnecessary gun violence, and every single one of which should be a reminder that change is imperative.
