Four Major Women Issues We are Facing Now
Everyone, including females, is born equal. We can see that inequality situations between males and females are getting better as society is developing rapidly. Yet, many important issues are still not addressed completely.
The following are four major women issues:
1. Economic Justice
There is a wide range of economic justice issues affecting women currently. Job discrimination, living wages, and pay equity are some examples of these.
From the U.S. Bureau of the Census and U.S. Department of Commerce, female labor force participation had been increased by 40% while married women’s participation had been increased by more than 50% from 1900 to 2000. The wage of women relative to males has risen over time but Female-Male Earnings Ratio is still below 0.8.
2. Violence Against Women
Violence consists of both physical and verbal attacks, including language abuse. Physical attacks usually happen in intimate relationships and within the family.
“Domestic violence may be physical or emotional” – both of these violent behaviors toward others is wrong. Since most males are born stronger than females physically, women are more likely to be victims of physical domestic violence.
3. Harassment
Harassment still exists in the workplace and in social media nowadays. Sexual harassment is one major type of harassment. Sexual harassment, including unwelcomed verbal or physical sexual activities, is illegal.
According to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, harassment in the workplace is strictly banned. Yet, since most teenagers are not mature enough when stepping into society, they are more vulnerable.
4. Negative Social Attitudes
Stereotypes like ‘women are less smart than men’ are universally believed in many parts of the world, including China, Korea, and India. This leads to female students receiving less attention from teachers in their schools. Differences in the treatment of students cause many female students to not be able to make good use of their talents.
In addition, the stereotype ‘women are less smart than men’ lead to huge differences in female and male population. The birthrate of females is very low in those mentioned countries. To make matters worse, believing females are objects of males leads to many social problems, like economic justice, etc.
