“Don’t believe when people say that you need to look a certain way because they definitely don’t know what they are talking about.”
First things first, I just want to admit that a female athlete has insecurities
That’s a big misconception about female athletes. People think we are always confident in ourselves 24 hours in the day, seven days a week.
Truth be told, we can be just as insecure about ourselves like the next girl. Do not get me wrong, I love being an athlete but sometimes, I can be even more insecure about my body.
I’ve been boxing for almost 10 years and it has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that people will talk about your physical appearance.
People always have something to say about the way I look. For me, I’ve always been insecure about my arms cause they’re so diesel and some guys always talk about my arms. It can be pretty embarrassing sometimes.
I would get teased a lot for my arms. When people see me on campus, they would call me ‘athlete man’ or ‘she-hulk.’ It would bother me what people think.
I decided to not let it get to me when I started accepting myself. When I started to do that, I could care less of what people think of me now.
Thanks to God, boxing, and my family, I am on the journey to be more confident. I love who I am.
The thing I would to tell others going through this is that whatever you dislike on your body, someone else envies that, so accept and love how you look and who you are.
Don’t believe when people say that you need to look a certain way because they definitely don’t know what they are talking about.
